I have worked for several different employers in my lifetime and even noticed this while in the Navy in regards to those that had recently transfered out of a particular duty station. When something happens in which your bosses are looking to lay blame, the fall guy often becomes the guy that just left. I’m not saying that it ever really worked but what the heck, he probably doesn’t care because he has already moved on to greener pastures and even if he would have cared, he is not around to defend himself.
Our Justice Department is using a similar tactic in regards to the 2001 Anthrax attack against Tom Daschle and others that killed 5 people. Blame the dead guy.
They have spent the last 7 years spinning their wheels on the investigation, never being able to get enough evidence to arrest anyone and then all of a sudden, a mentally unstable guy that had access to the liquid form of the strain apparently used commits suicide and the case miraculously becomes solved?
I don’t want to give too much credence to Gerald Posner who has a bit of a reputation himself but he has brought up quite a few questions that the DOJ has not answered (watch the video) during 2 consecutive appearances on Olbermann and they doubtfully ever will.
Like, how the liquid anthrax that Dr. Bruce Ivins had access to was transformed into weapons grade powdered anthrax suitable for the mail attacks? And how was such a mentally unstable man with such a questionable psychological profile as the DOJ claims that Ivins had, able to get a job at a top secret bio-weapons facility? No wonder Daschle has been less than complimentary in his comments on this investigation and is currently not being too talkative about this latest development.
Ivins may well have been involved either by himself as as part of a larger conspiracy but as my dad used to say, “If something seems too good to be true, it usually is” and while this “conspiracy theory” will probably never reach the level of the Kennedy assasination, the DOJ has done a good job of trying to put it on that level.
UPDATE: 8/8/08 - Crooks and Liars details the unanswered questions still out there in this “closed” case.

I don’t know if the DNC realized the irony of this or not but less than a month after the Democrats in Congress capitulated on FISA, one of the chief benefactors of the bill just happens to become one of the prime sponsors of next month’s convention in Denver.
Salon’s Glenn Greenwald has the skinny on the primo AT&T swag that will be waiting for every delegate and media member when they arrive and adds his take on the NASCAResque turn of events in current day politics.
What’s most striking about the Convention bag — aside, of course, from its stunning design — is how the parties no longer bother even trying to hide who it is who funds and sponsors them. But — an earnest citizen might object — just because AT&T is helping to pay for the Democrats’ convention and having its logo plastered all over it the way a ranch owner brands his cattle doesn’t mean that they will receive any special consideration when it comes time for Congress to debate and pass our nation’s laws.
So where is the irony?
When President Bush signed the FISA Reform Act, the numerous lawsuits against AT&T for assisting the government in their previous illegal warrantless wiretaps pretty much went away potentially saving the telcom company $21,000 per affected person. The Democrats, including presumptive nominee Barack Obama changed course and voted for the immunity despite previous pledges to the contrary which pushed the bill over the top. Now all of a sudden the convention, which was having money issues with some talking about scaling down the event, has a new big time sponsor?
I’d say that this all sounds like a new topic for Oliver Stone to make into his next JFK type movie. But something this obvious wouldn’t need the master of conspiracy theories to connect the dots would it?

MTV has announced that they will be doing something they haven’t done since their inception in 1981. Starting this summer the music network will accept political advertising for the first time.
“MTV Networks will accept political advertising that is national in scope, sponsored by a legally qualified candidate, a candidate’s official campaign committee, a nationally recognized political party, or the official congressional campaign committee(s) of a nationally recognized party.”
And as expected it didn’t take long to put a partisan spin on the decision.
Shock: MTV Lifts Ban on Political Advertising for First Time in Outlet’s History
Coincedentally, um, coinciding with Barack Obama’s youth-powered run at the presidency.
Why, one would almost begin to imagine that perhaps the media supports Obama or something.
Um, and other than the fact that no one watching that network has a grandparent as old him, McCain couldn’t buy ads why?
Putting that non-issue aside, if you really wanted to look into conspiracies over at MTV, maybe someone could look into why the music network doesn’t play music anymore…

It is always entertaining to take an important political story and compare how each wing of the spectrum sees fit to spin it. The latest story to hit the spin zone deals with the just released NIE report that states that the latest evil empire on the Bush Administration’s hit list isn’t quite as evil as once thought. Of course this totally contradicts the same report from 2005 which deemed that Iran was evil and must be dealt with to which Bush and Co. had already set the wheels in motion to do just that.
Now to preface this, I have no idea how accurate this report is and given the history of our intelligence agencies lately, the only people that probably do know for sure are high up in the Iranian government but that doesn’t stop both sides from putting their own particular fingerprints on to what this report means. The left of course believes that this vindicates their calls all along that Bush and Co. will lie, have lied, and will continue to lie in order to carry out their agenda.
Sounds like the United States intel community, regardless of what it thinks of Iran’s current rulers, would rather trust them than Dick Cheney or the rest of the PNAC Platoon.
And the right, not to be outdone, has their own ideas on the accuracy of this report as well.
In other words they don’t know (and that can be said with high confidence now) if Iran has their weapons program ongoing now or not - even if Iran claims they do! It looks like some decided to push their views over those of others and stage a media event.
The same righty quoted above apparently isn’t someone willing to pass up a good conspiracy theory when they can manufacture one either. He even sees a connection between the unfavorable to his position NIE report and the spy who wasn’t really a spy even after she was outed as a spy, Valerie Plame.
I have listed a lot of coincidental and circumstantial evidence in this post folks. I feel compelled to warn everyone when I see links to this NIE and Valerie Plame!
Talk about a leap of Grand Canyon proportions! What did our parents do for entertainment before the internet and blogs came into being?

Awhile back I wrote about one of the almost daily top 10 lists that people throw out there, in this case it was from the conservative front group Family Security Matters and it listed what they believed to be the 10 most dangerous organizations in America. Surprisingly, to me at least, the group listed our colleges and universities as the 2nd most dangerous in the country. South Dakota Politics today links to an article that tells us exactly why our colleges are so dangerous.
“The University of Iowa’s history department and Duke’s history department have a couple of things in common. Both have made national news because neither has a Republican faculty member. And both rejected the application of Mark Moyar, a highly qualified historian and a Republican, for a faculty appointment.”
Who knew there was a box on the job application that asked for an applicants political affiliation? No wonder many on the outer fringes of the political spectrum are always so uptight, it must be really tough to believe that everyone is constantly conspiring against you…Just ask Ron Paul supporters (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
